Box for Others 2009/2010

Willow LogoAt our weekly meetings we pass round The Box for Others so that members can donate the loose change in their pockets to benefit those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Some members have opted to make an annual donation rather than answer the weekly call. In itself, the money raised each week, normally between £4.00 and £8.00 is not a great sum. But taken over the year and when combined with the annual donations given, it becomes a sizable amount. Club Council decided that to make the best use of the whole amount it should be donated to a single charity, group or organisation at the end of each Rotary Year in July.

The recipient charity, group, or organisation is nominated by the President and this year President Mike has nominated The Willow Foundation who provide special days for 16 to 40 year olds. These Special Days aim to provide young adults living with life-threatening conditions a chance to escape the pressures of their daily routine and share quality time with family and/or friends.

The total raised in 2009/2010 for the Willow Foundation was £362.93.

Wishing Well

The Three Mucketeers! The Rotary Club‘s Wishing Well and Fountain is situated in the courtyard adjacent to the shops and the Pennyfarthing Suite to the rear of the Last Drop Hotel.

On Monday 13th July, Rtns Neil Hardman, David Biggar and Sandy Manning set about emptying the well, clearing away the debris and sludge, removing the donations given for making a wish and generally cleansing the well for future use.

After four hours work the job was done, the Wishing Well looked as good as new and £562.47 had been added to the Club‘s Charity Account for distribution to local & international Charities, Groups, Organisations etc.

Well done Neil, David & Sandy!
